To get a CSCS Apprentice Card, you typically need to pass the CITB Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) Operatives Test. This test ensures you have a basic level of health and safety awareness before starting work on a construction site.
1. Identify the Correct Test
- Most Apprentices: The CITB Operative test is the standard requirement.
- Exceptions: Depending on your specific trade, you might need a Specialist Test (e.g., plumbing or working at heights). Use the CSCS Card Finder to confirm the exact test for your occupation.
2. Test Details & Preparation
- Format: A 45-minute, computer-based "touch screen" test consisting of 50 multiple-choice questions.
- Pass Mark: You must score at least 45 out of 50 (90%)
The CSCS Apprentice card is for individuals on recognised apprenticeships.
It is valid for four years and six months and cannot be renewed. Cardholders are expected to complete their apprenticeship by the time the card expires and apply for a skilled CSCS card.
To apply for this card you will be required to submit evidence that you are registered for an apprenticeship and that you have passed a CITB Health, Safety and Environment test, or an approved alternative.
